Germany Australia Free Trade Agreement

Altmaier: „The EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement is an important signal for free and fair trade.“ The Environmental Goods Agreement (ITA), currently under negotiation, aims to deregulate the market for environmental goods. While the EGA is negotiated as a plurilateral agreement (i.e. by a small number of WTO member states), there is hope that it will later become a multilateral agreement that will be adopted by all WTO members. The initiative builds on APEC`s List of Environmental Goods, a document adopted in Vladivostok in September 2012, which sets the goal of limiting tariffs to a total of 54 environmental goods to a maximum of 5% of the value of these goods by 2015. ec.europa.eu/trade/policy/countries-and-regions/countries/australia/ The EU is New Zealand`s second largest trading partner. In 2019, the volume of trade amounted to more than 9 billion euros. The Agreement establishes mutual recognition of conformity assessment procedures. This is done to reduce the costs of auditing and certifying exports and imports. So far, the EU and Australia have conducted their trade and economic relations under the 2008 EU-Australia Partnership Framework. The aim is to facilitate trade in industrial products between the EU and Australia by reducing technical barriers and improving trade in services and investment.

The EU`s position on bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) has evolved since 2007 in the light of bilateral free trade agreements concluded by some of Europe`s important trading partners (including the United States and Japan) that could threaten the competitiveness of European companies in global markets. The new generation of free trade agreements that the EU intends to conclude with other countries is vast and covers a wide range of different aspects. These agreements not only address the issue of tariffs (e.g. B tariffs, export subsidies), but also on rules on services, the elimination of non-tariff barriers and other trade-related aspects, such as investment and competition. . . .
